This video contains a root clipping tutorial for wavy or curly hair. My hair specifically is 2a wavy hair - but this would work if you also have curly hair. I have found it best to approach the clipping from the backside of my head while twisting in an upward motion. I generally do this - wear it to bed - and get voluminous roots by morning! This is a great way to have your hair achieve nice volume naturally without product or heat. I take you along for the before (wet head just out of the shower), during where we clip the roots together, and after (next morning to remove the root clips).
