In today’s recipe, I’m sharing Farali Muthiya, a healthy and delicious upvas / vrat special snack made without grains.This recipe is perfect for fasting during Upvas, Mahashivratri, Navratri, or any vrat day.It is made using sama, rajgira, peanuts, and dudhi and served with tasty green coriander chutney.

Ingredients for Farali Muthiya
½ cup Sama (Barnyard millet)
½ cup Rajgira flour
½ cup Peanuts (Roasted & coarsely ground)
Salt as per taste (sendha namak)
1 Tbsp Green chilli & ginger paste
¼ cup Fresh coriander (finely chopped)
¼ Tsp Black pepper powder
1 Tsp Cumin powder
½ Tsp Sugar
½ Tbsp Lemon juice
1 cup Grated Dudhi (Bottle gourd)
Ingredients for Green Coriander Chutney
1 cup Fresh coriander
¼ cup Peanuts
2 Tbsp Dahi (curd)
Salt as per taste
4 Green chillies (chopped)
½ Tbsp Lemon juice
1 Tsp Cumin powder
Ingredients for Tempering
2 Tbsp Oil
1 Tsp Cumin
1 Tbsp Sesame Seeds
7-8 Curry Leaves
Fresh Coriander
Method
1.Add sama to a grinder and grind it into a fine powder.
2.Transfer the sama flour into a mixing bowl.
3.Add rajgira flour and coarsely ground peanuts.
4.Now add green chilli–ginger paste, lemon juice, salt, coriander, cumin powder, black pepper powder, and sugar.Mix everything well.
5.Peel and grate the dudhi, then add it to the mixture.Mix well and prepare a soft dough (do not add water).
6.Heat a steamer or cooker on gas and add water inside it.
7.Grease a plate and your hands lightly with oil.
8.Take a portion of the mixture and shape it into slender rolls.
9.Place them on the greased plate and put the plate inside the cooker.
10.Cover with a lid and steam for 30 minutes, checking occasionally.
11.Insert a knife—if it comes out clean, the muthiya is ready.
12.Remove and let them rest for a few minutes, then cut into pieces.
13.Add coriander, lemon juice, dahi, peanuts, salt, green chillies, and cumin powder to a blender. Grind into a smooth chutney and keep aside.
14.Heat oil in a pan. Add jeera and sesame seeds and let them crackle .Add curry leaves.
15.Add the steamed muthiya pieces and mix gently so they are well coated.
16.Farali Muthiya is ready to serve! Enjoy it hot with green coriander chutney.
