Chizuko Ueno discusses achievements and failures of the last 40 years, as well as the lingering effects of the March 11 Fukushima nuclear disaster and current nuclear politics, with a special focus on how these issues relate to women.

A sociologist by training, Professor Ueno is one of the leading feminist critics and public intellectuals in Japan. She is the author and co-author of more than 50 books that address issues of the family, patriarchy, gender, capitalism, and nationalism.
