StoryTime: how I tested FALSE positive for Herpes & HIV

this has been such a rollercoaster 😩 what are the odds that this would happen to someone TWICE. i debated for a while about whether I'd share this experience or not. i ultimately decided to share to educate people & it encourage you all to be safe & get tested! know your status & ask your partners to get tested as well 👍🏾☺️

as mentioned, ask the clinic or your health insurance company if they provide free preventative STI testing. usually, with insurance you wont have a copay at the dr & without insurance it’s free at the clinics.

quick fact: PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a medication taken by people who are HIV-negative to reduce their risk of getting HIV. Please ask your doctor about it!

quick fact: people living with HIV who take their medication daily as prescribed and maintain an undetectable viral load have a very small chance (close to 0%) of transmitting HIV to their sexual partners 😊

quick fact: HIV can’t survive for long outside the human body, so you can’t get HIV from casual contact like hugging, kissing, shaking hands, or sharing food or drinks.

quick fact: intercourse isnt the only way to contract an STI so please get tested at least annually. they can be spread by simple things like sharing drinks, smoking with people, exposure in healthcare settings, etc..
