Four trains are approaching the fiddle yard, two from each direction. The computer resolves the "problem", sets the routes and drives the trains safely, preventing any collisions!
The layout is fitted with occupancy detection, so the computer knows the exact position of all trains. Locos are speed calibrated, so they can be stopped accurately.
Each point is fitted with feedback. The computer instructs the points to switch, waits 10 seconds and then checks that the instructions have been carried out. If they haven't, the computer looks for an alternate route, or stops the affected train until the problem is resolved.
The layout is automated with TrainController software from Friewald. Train occupancy detection comes from Digitrax. Point switching units come from CML Electronics (now Sig-naTrak / GFB Designs)
