Between 2013 and 2023, Pakistan's cotton export volumes experienced significant fluctuations. In the early years of the decade, exports declined sharply due to reduced domestic production and increasing competition. Key trends are:
2013-2014: Pakistan exported 115,000 metric tons of raw cotton, marking a period of relative stability.
2014-2015: Exports dropped to 95,000 metric tons.
2015-2016: A sharp decline followed, with exports falling to 49,000 metric tons.
2016-2018: Exports bottomed out, reaching 25,000 metric tons in 2016-17 and 35,000 metric tons in 2017-18.
2018-2020: The figure dropped to just 13,000 metric tons per year due to lower production and increased competition.
2023: Pakistan's overall cotton exports, including cotton yarn and fabric, contributed $3.05 billion in value but saw a 9.43% decrease compared to 2022.
