One of the biggest figures on the international stage could soon be making a large impression in the book world.

Chancellor Helmut Kohl's new book - "Culinary trip through the German States" - was unveiled at the Frankfurt book fair this week.

The German leader's wife Hannelore was there to launch her husband's cookery guide.

A surprisingly thin book by a larger than life politician.

After years of campaigning for her husband's policies, Chancellor Kohl's wife Hannelore was in Frankfurt to launch the book she co-wrote with him.

SOUNDBITE: (In German)
"My husband liked the idea. I asked would you assist me and he said yes. And to the nine regions which we laid down because we thought the dishes were not set to a particular state line. He wrote the various introductions, with the story of the people and their traditions and how he experienced it, what his thoughts are. And I find it very nice."

Kohl - whose name means cabbage in German - is a very busy man, forever jetting to world capitals and meeting world leaders.

But he always finds time to eat - even at the World Poverty Summit in Copenhagen.

Kohl's tight schedule means he sometimes has to survive on snacks - like at this recent meeting in Cologne.

But his favourite dish is pig's stomach.

He also has a sweet tooth.

"Culinary trip through the German Sates" officially goes on sale in January, with a price tag of 20 U-S dollars.

All profits will go to the Hannelore Kohl Fund - a children's medical charity.

If it's a hit in Germany, the book could be translated into other languages.

Who knows, it could even end up on the international best sellers' list?
