The assumption embedded in this framework is that even if prices consolidate or correct, the underlying scarcity limits how far the market can unwind without triggering renewed demand for physical metal. Registered silver on COMEX, the metal explicitly available for delivery, has been falling steadily for months, declining from around 167 million ounces in October to just over 100 million ounces recently. Eligible silver has also dropped, but much of it is effectively spoken for by ETFs, institutions, and sovereign holders with little incentive to sell. Against this backdrop, open interest in upcoming contracts still represents several times the amount of readily deliverable silver, forcing the system to rely on contracts being closed out rather than fulfilled with metal.
