Meaning: Delivery of goods by Bailor to Bailee for a purpose, on the condition of return.

Parties:
✅ Bailor → person delivering goods
✅ Bailee → person receiving goods

Essentials of Bailment → Agreement, Delivery of goods, Specific Purpose, Return of goods

What is NOT Bailment?
❌ Depositing currency in a bank
❌ Keeping valuables in a locker

🔹 Kinds of Bailment

1️⃣ Based on Benefit → Bailor, Bailee, Both
2️⃣ Based on Consideration → Gratuitous & Non-Gratuitous Bailment

🔹 Rights & Duties of Bailor

✅ Rights → Claim goods back, Compensation for unauthorized use, Compensation for negligence, Terminate bailment, Sue for return of goods
✅ Duties → Disclose faults (Sec. 150), Bear expenses (Sec. 158), Indemnify Bailee (Sec. 159, 164), Accept goods back, Pay damages

🔹 Rights & Duties of Bailee

✅ Rights → Compensation for Bailor’s fault, Reimbursement of expenses, Right of Lien (Sec. 170, 171), Sue wrongdoer (Sec. 180), Deliver to joint bailors (Sec. 165)
✅ Duties → Reasonable care (Sec. 151), No unauthorized use (Sec. 154), No mixing of goods (Sec. 155–157), Return goods (Sec. 160), Return accretions/profits (Sec. 163)

On expiry of time ⏳

On fulfillment of purpose 🎯

🔹 Finder of Lost Goods (Sec. 168–169)

Rights → Retain goods until reward/expenses paid, Sue for reward, Sell goods in certain conditions

Duties → Find true owner, Take reasonable care

🔹 Lien

Meaning: Right to retain goods until dues are paid

Types:
🟢 Particular Lien (Sec. 170) → right over specific goods
🟢 General Lien (Sec. 171) → right over any goods (bankers, wharfingers, attorneys, brokers)

🔹 Pledge (Sec. 172–181)

Meaning: Bailment of goods as security for a loan/promise

Parties:
✅ Pawnor → person who pledges goods
✅ Pawnee → person who receives goods

Difference Between Bailment & Pledge → All pledges are bailments, but not all bailments are pledges

🔹 Rights & Duties of Pawnor (Sec. 177)

✔️ Rights → Redeem goods, Redeem before time, Notice before sale, Claim surplus
✔️ Duties → Repay debt, Pay expenses, Disclose defects, Compensate Pawnee

🔹 Rights & Duties of Pawnee (Sec. 173–176)
