What is the Vagus Nerve & Why Does It Matter? The Vagus Nerve (Cranial Nerve X) is the longest nerve in your body, connecting your brain to your heart, lungs, and gut. It acts as your body's "master switch" for relaxation. When you are stressed, your Vagus Nerve has low tone (low HRV). By stimulating it, we send a direct signal of safety to the brain, lowering cortisol levels and slowing the heart rate physically—something thinking alone cannot do.
