Описание: Delhi recently tried to create artificial rain through cloud seeding in an effort to reduce severe air pollution. The plan involved spraying special particles into the clouds using aircraft, hoping they would trigger rainfall and wash pollutants out of the air. This project was developed with help from IIT Kanpur and funded by the Delhi government.

However, the attempt did not succeed. The key reason was that the weather conditions were not suitable — the clouds did not contain enough moisture. Cloud seeding only works when there are dense, moisture-rich clouds, and Delhi’s winter atmosphere is usually dry and stable. Because of this, very little rain formed, and air quality did not noticeably improve. Even the areas that did receive a few drops of rain saw no meaningful change in pollution levels.

The experiment also raised concerns about cost versus benefit. Cloud-seeding operations are expensive, and since the results were weak, many experts questioned whether this money could be better spent on more reliable pollution-control methods. Technology like this can help in certain situations, but it cannot fix pollution when weather conditions don’t cooperate.

This trial highlighted that artificial rain, at best, can only be a temporary support measure. The real solution for Delhi’s pollution lies in long-term steps such as reducing industrial emissions, improving public transport, controlling construction dust, and managing crop-burning in nearby states. The failure of this project serves as a reminder that there are no shortcuts to solving large environmental challenges.
