Featuring Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health experts William Moss, MD, MPH (https://publichealth.jhu.edu/faculty/..., and Rupali Limaye, PhD, MPH, MA (https://publichealth.jhu.edu/faculty/....
Dr. Moss is a professor in the departments of Epidemiology; International Health; and Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is executive director at the Bloomberg School’s International Vaccine Access Center (https://www.jhsph.edu/ivac/). During the pandemic, Dr. Moss has been engaged in research to understand the impact of the pandemic on childhood vaccination programs and in communicating with the general public about COVID-19 vaccines.
Professor Limaye is an associate professor in the departments of International Health; Epidemiology; and Health, Behavior and Society. She is deputy director of the Bloomberg School’s International Vaccine Access Center (https://www.jhsph.edu/ivac/). An expert in vaccine behavior and decision-making, including vaccine hesitancy and acceptance, she studies how health information can best be communicated to individuals in different contexts and through different channels. During the pandemic, she led the communication workstream of the Baltimore COVID-19 Public Private Partnership.
The experts discuss how, three years into the pandemic, remarkable progress has been made, but COVID variants continue to emerge while immunity decreases over time and demand for both the primary and booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine has been lower than expected. The experts discuss the Food and Drug Administration possibly recommending regular updates for COVID-19 vaccines, potentially once a year. The experts also discuss potential new vaccine delivery platforms such as nasal sprays.
