I hear the Earth’s peoples singing, the triillionfold breath of the planet I hear,
Those of her humans, each one singing theirs as it should be, has always been,
The healthcare workers singing theirs as they struggle against the beyond,
The grocery store cashiers singing theirs as they hand us receipts with a smile,
The mail deliverers singing theirs as they lug mountains of catalogues,
The distance teachers singing in improvised home offices,
The tellers singing as they strap on masks and enter banks,
The truckers singing behind the wheel, the journalists singing as they type,
The singing of parents and children together, the singing of the lovelorn, the lonely,
The song of the hungry, the song of the poor,
Each singing what belongs to them, each life as unique as each death,
Yesterday today’s song, today the song of tomorrow,
The young, old, brave, afraid, I hear the Earth’s humans
Singing with heads thrown back or bowed the healing song of hope.
