Описание: When a jet engine is happy and having a nice meal of air and fuel, it is running fine. Air is sucked into through the intakes and says hello to the huge turbofan and then it is compressed. Each engine is different and have various amounts of compression stages and blades but they will start at a low pressure compression and then start to get squeezed even more because a jet engine's gets chamber gets smaller and smaller as it progresses.

It will go through a low pressure compressor and then have some air bypassed. Many fighter aircraft have some seriously low bypass rations. The remaining air however, will go through a high pressure compressor for the next stage. For example the F-15E Strike Eagle's engine, a Pratt and Whitney F100 PW229 will compress the air to 32 times! This is the equivalent for every pound of air, it is magnified to 32 times its original mass. All compressor stage blades are spinning and at set angles along with set speeds to harmonise the mixture of air to the next ingredient, fuel.

Fuel injectors are ready to mix with the air that has been compressed and will meet up at the combustion chamber where the thrust begins. Now remember there is a set amount of fuel to match the amount of compressed air that is entered. A compression stall is when something has interfered with the compressors. This happens in a split second. Something has created a problem with one of the compressors which affects the next set of blades, of which will affect the next set and so on, like a chain reaction, until it generates a back log of pressure. In the meantime, the fuel mixture is still ready to meet the compressed air it was waiting for. So you have an enormous amount of fuel with less or a very different amount of compressed air and, hey, BANG! It can create very violent flames, a bang and vibrations. As we mentioned that this happens in an instant so I would like to give huge credit to the pilot’s reaction time. The yaw or pull from the compressor stall will make the aircraft pull to one side. I would like you to rewind and see how quickly the pilot adjusted the rudder to keep the aircraft more stable.

Bird strikes, FOD, icing or something that has disrupted the compressors will cause them to stall. It can be a one off or intermittent called "engine pumping". It can happen at anytime and for compressor stall during a flight can have different processes once diagnosed.
