Part of a collection of home movies from Los Angeles, this Kodachrome color film probably dates from the early 1960s. It portrays a 1960’s Los Angeles summer. Vibrant colors recorded on Eastman Kodak’s Kodachrome film sweep Hollywood Boulevard, Little Tokyo for the 20th annual Nisei Week and Santa Barbara during the 36th annual celebration of the Old Spanish Days Fiesta. It features personal images of kin as they pose affectionately together and tour Los Angeles’ iconic landmarks including the Moulin Rouge. Footage captures the cinema lover’s awe as they pass over hand prints and signatures of their favorite stars embedded in cement outside Grauman’s Chinese Theater. The group tours Hollywood Blvd. at it’s peak as the center of global entertainment. The Hollywood Walk of Fame began in 1960 in a revitalization effort.

Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you.
