In this project we shot just over 1000 photos to cover of 53+ acres of property from an elevation of 400ft. Although we prefer to capture shots for mapping projects at a lower elevation, this terrain had many elevation changes and covered with trees, so we didn't want to take the chance of flying into the side of a tree. Using the mission planning app Copterus, we set our camera angle to 90º with the front and side overlap of 83%. Five Ground Control Points (GCPs) were used. One was placed approx. in the center of the project site and one at each corner of the property.

To process the images, we used the demo version of Agisoft Metashape Pro. Similar to Pix4D, we are huge fans of this program due to its ease of use and incredible products it can produce. As you can see in the clip, we produced an orthomosaic photo as well as a Digital Elevation Model (DEM).

While I did not get a chance to add them to the video, we also generated contour lines for every 2 feet and 10 feet, and a 3D model of the entire project. Using these generated products, the owner can get a quick visual representation of the entire area, find slopes, measure distances, and more.
