Sears Kay Ruin trail offers a glimpse of a distinctive lifestyle that existed long before Columbus. Join me on this 1-mile loop trail that will take us through Hohokom Ruins. The trail goes up a small hill in the middle of an arid desert and at the top we will encounter the ruins of the native people that called it home. The site of Sears Kay Ruin was first occupied about 1500 AD. Point of Interest along the Great Western Trail. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Hohokam may have been the ancestors of the modern Akimel O'odham and Tohono O'odham peoples in Southern Arizona. In September 2020, a wildfire destroyed most of the vegetation at and around the site.
