Wild Ginger (Asarum canadense) is a perennial ground cover plant that has been on this planet since pre-historic times. It likes moist shaded woodlands where it can keep its feet wet.
Wild Gingers roots "snake" across the ground in matted rhizomes. It has heart-shaped leaves with hairy stems that shoot up in pairs. it has a beautiful old world brown or maroon basal bell shaped trumpet flowers that is designed for pollinators that crawl rather then fly.
it was used to treat snake bites and swan of the names for it is Canadian snakeroot is one of its common names and it was traditionally used to treat snake bites and the roots look similar to snakes.

Wild Ginger can be easily candied and made into a delicious simple syrup, though it is also used as a tea or tincture.

Though not related to traditional Ginger it has many of the similar benefits and can be interchangeably used with ginger as a spice or medicine.

Decoctions have traditionally been used for cardio vascular and circulation issue, including helping regulate heartbeat and blood flow, as well as help with menstruation flow and regularity in women.
It has shown to be helpful in relieving stomach cramps, gas, and adding digestion. A tea or syrup of this root may be used for relieving a fever by inducing sweating.
Powdered wild Ginger root was an old native tooth remedy.
