Tom Waits is one of those rare writer/performers who is both character and caricature, whose performance is unique enough to overshadow the writing, but the writing still manages to be strong enough to transcend the performance. This song really embodies the Waits caricature, so it’s fun to try it out in such a different setting here on acoustic guitar.
