WCW Road Wild 1997 took place in Sturgis, South Dakota on August 9th 1997. The event was free to enter, and seeing as these shows took place during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the typical WCW fans we would see were replaced by motorcycle enthusiasts.

The event was headlined by WCW Champion Lex Luger defending the gold against Hollywood Hulk Hogan (gold that Luger had only won days prior on Nitro). Nature Boy Ric Flair battled Syxx, The Giant took on Randy Savage, and Diamond Dallas Page tried to end his short rivalry with Curt Hennig.
