In this video I head out on a wet winter walk in the New Forest, taking the train to Brockenhurst and walking a circular route through Black Knoll, Lyndhurst, and back through the forest after heavy rain from Storm Chandra.
This is very much a walk and talk video, sharing the route, the conditions underfoot and how I manage Type 1 diabetes on a 10 mile winter walk. With flooded paths, muddy trails and swollen rivers, it was a day for waterproof boots, steady pacing and keeping a close eye on blood glucose levels.
I talk openly about walking without insulin early on, how my sugars behaved throughout the day, and why getting outdoors helps me mentally as well as physically. This isn’t medical advice just real-world experience from nearly 30 years of living with diabetes.
The New Forest is a special place for me. Even on a grey, wet day it has a calming, almost magical quality and walks like this are why I keep coming back. Sometimes it’s not about distance or speed it’s just about being out there.
