A lot of up-and-coming artists don’t realize how important social media is when it comes to growing a fan base. The reality is… people don’t discover music the same way they used to. People are on their phones all day. Scrolling. Watching. Observing. So if you’re an artist who’s trying to build a brand, connect with real supporters, and eventually make money from your music… your social media matters way more than you think.
But here’s some mistakes that I see happen every single day:
Mistake #1 – Deleting your content.
Some artists will post a clip, get a few likes, and delete it. Then their page ends up empty. If someone discovers you for the first time and clicks on your page but there’s nothing there, they have nothing to connect with. They can’t learn about you. They can’t see your story. They can’t get familiar with your vibe. If your page looks empty, you look inactive — even if you’re working behind the scenes. You can’t build fans if you keep erasing your presence.
Mistake #2 – Barely posting.
Some artists will post once every few months, and when they do post, they hide their face. Hoodie on. Head down. No personality. But here’s the truth: people don’t connect with songs first… they connect with people. If you don’t show your face, your voice, your personality, or your story… then there’s no real reason for someone to support you. Music is emotional. The connection matters.
Mistake #3 – Treating your page like it’s your personal page.
If your page is half memes, half music, half arguments, half randomness — nobody knows what to follow you for. Your page should look like an artist page, not a personal diary. Your brand needs direction.
Mistake #4 – Not posting video content.
The algorithm is pushing video. Reels. Shorts. TikToks. If you’re only posting pictures and flyers, you’re invisible to the algorithm. Show the process. Show the behind the scenes. Show personality. Show the journey.
Mistake #5 – Being inconsistent.
Being active for a week and disappearing for three months kills momentum. Consistency is what trains both the algorithm and the audience to recognize you.
Mistake #6 – Never interacting.
When people comment or DM and you never reply, you’re missing out on real relationship building. Fans remember who remembers them.
Mistake #7 – No branding.
No watermark, no recognizable color, no signature look or feel. Branding makes you memorable.
Mistake #8 – Only posting finished music videos.
People don’t just want the final product — they want the journey. They want to grow with you.
Mistake #9 – Ignoring analytics.
Your page literally tells you what’s working and what’s not. Use the data.

At the end of the day, your social media is your stage.
Your resume.
Your storefront.
Your microphone.
The more you show up, the faster your fan base grows.
Stop hiding. Stop doubting. Start being seen.
Because the moment you take social media seriously… everything changes. #bandlabartist #beatmakers #independentartist #musicadvice #musicbusiness #musicindustrytips #contentid #independentartists #musicpromotion #musicmarketing
