Odisha Govt Gears Up for Possible El Niño Impact | CM Mohan Majhi Reviews Disaster Preparedness

Описание: The Odisha government has intensified its preparations to tackle possible El Niño conditions and any resulting natural disasters. A State-Level Natural Disaster Management Committee meeting was held at Lok Seva Bhawan under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Odisha has developed a robust and nearly 'full-proof' disaster management system and stressed the need to maintain and strengthen it further. With forecasts indicating the possibility of below-normal rainfall due to El Niño, the government has directed the Agriculture Department and other concerned departments to work in coordination and keep contingency plans ready to protect the Kharif crop.

The state has also allocated funds for the maintenance of 911 multipurpose cyclone shelters, activated the 24x7 emergency control room, 112 helpline, and the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP)-based SMS system. The Chief Minister also advised authorities to use television and social media platforms to disseminate accurate information and curb rumours during emergencies.
