We present to you: "Bhavayami Raghuramam", a masterful ragamalika set in seven enchanting ragas: Saveri, Nattakurinji, Dhanyasi, Mukhari, Mohanam, Poorvikalyani, and Madhyamavathi. It is a meticulously crafted masterpiece by Shri Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma, set to Roopaka thalam, that unfolds the grandeur of the Ramayana in one seamless, captivating musical journey.
The composition opens with the divine birth of Lord Rama, his virtuous early life, and his fateful exile to the forest alongside Sita and Lakshmana. It traces his sojourn through the Dandaka forest, the slaying of the demon Viradha, and the blessed encounter with sage Agasthya, who gifts him the powerful Vaishnavastra.
The narrative then moves to Panchavati, where the appearance of the golden deer (Maricha in disguise) leads to the tragic abduction of Sita by Ravana. Rama’s alliance with Hanuman and Sugriva follows, marked by the battle with Vali to restore Sugriva’s kingdom.
From there, the verses sweep into the Sundarakanda, capturing Hanuman’s leap to Lanka, his meeting with Sita, and his return bearing her chudamani. The climactic Yuddhakanda unfolds with the construction of the bridge to Lanka, the fierce battle, and the ultimate defeat of Ravana.
The composition closes in regal splendour, depicting Rama’s triumphant return to Ayodhya, his coronation, and his eternal role as the protector of the universe, a complete musical retelling of the Ramayana, woven seamlessly through melody, devotion, and poetic grace.
