Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Curt E16 fifth-wheel trailer hitch with the S20 slider. Has a 16,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this fifth-wheel hitch is designed to mount into your truck bed, so that you can tow your fifth-wheel trailer. This one is a slider design, so it is for use on trucks that have beds that are shorter than eight feet, like the six foot to six and a half foot beds. Now, it is not recommended for use on truck beds that are shorter than six feet.
Few features on this, we're gonna zoom in a little bit. This one uses the auto locking slide bar job mechanism right here, provides superior security, has this rear tension bar here that works with that slide bar to clamp around your kingpin. Helps minimize rattle in any movement. A handle that operates that slide bar, what's nice, if you notice there's a tab on the handle and right here and they have holes in it, you can actually lock this handle in place with a padlock to keep anybody from trying to open or closes. Now, the padlock is not included.
We do sell those separate on our website. Now, at the end of this video, I am gonna demonstrate how the kingpin will slide into this hitch head and how the slider operates. But I first wanna go over some features of it. It does use a dual pivoting head with a 10 degree lateral movement for nice simple hookup. It does use Permalube pivot bushings to increase the hitch life, reduce maintenance and a skid plate right up here at the top, provides a nice, smooth quiet ride.
Now, we do recommend to use a nylon lube plate which we sell separately on our website listed on this product page as related product. And what that lube plate is, it's a silicone plate that'll attach to the king kingpin on your trailer probes, prevents scratches on the skid plate and it'll also let the kingpin glide smoothly into the hitch during hookup. Now, when you go to hookup, you do wanna be as level as possible with your tow vehicle and this will give you a hitch height adjustment range of four inches. And hitch height is always measured from your truck bed to your top of your hitch head. This one will give you a range of 14 inches to 18 inches.
And the way you can adjust that, let me just zoom into the side to show you right here on this crossmember that the head is in, there's five rows of holes, so you can move it up or down to get the correct hitch height you need for your application to be as level as possible. This one here for demonstrations of this video. It's about in the midway setting. Now, this is a non-binding slider that it's attached to. This will provide clearance that's required for the short bed trucks to turn safely at slow speeds. It will give you a slider travel of about 12 inches front to back. Right now, it's in the towing position, which will be closest to the cab. If you release it, you could slide it back 12 inches to the tailgate and it'll give you an extra 12 inches, which will prevent the trailer from hitting your cab of your truck during those sharp, slow turns. And what's nice is this lever here will automatically latch in both directions, so you only have to exit the truck once. Now, this is a simple installation. It does install into base rails that are in your truck bed. Now. the base rails and the installation kit for those base rails is not included. Those we sell separately. You would have to get 'em for your correct vehicle. And this is compatible with the Curt, the B&W, the Demco, the Draw-Tite, Husky and the Reese above-bed base rails. This hitch is a sturdy steel construction, nice carbide black finish to it. Gross towing weight capacity of 16,000 pounds, vertical load limit or pin weight capacity of 4,000 pounds. So, what I'm gonna do now is, demonstrate those what I was mentioning to you. First we're gonna, here's what a hitch or a kingpin would look like on your fifth-wheel trailer. That's what's gonna slide into the hitch head. So to do that, what you'll first wanna do is, pull the handle to open the slide bar. So, you just pull this out all the way and it automatically lock in the open position. So, you can see it's now open. The tension bar right here is holding that slide bar open. So, when you slide your king pin in, just like this, it'll push that tension bar out of the way and allow that slide bar just like that to come across. And now you're all closed up, ready to go. If you're gonna padlock it, you put a lock through there or a pin and clip, whiche
