This video explains about Autophagy: Mechanism of Autophagy, Regulation of Autophagy and the Importance of Autophagy in Clinical Medicine.
Autophagy is derived from the Greek word, Auto meaning “Self” and phagein meaning “to eat”.
Autophagy is a highly conserved pathway that degrades cellular components, such as defective organelles and aggregates of misfolded protein, through lysosomes.
Autophagic process is meant for regulating diverse cellular functions including:
1. Growth,
2. Differentiation,
3. Response to nutrient deficit and oxidative stress,
4. Cell death, and
5. Macromolecule and organelle turnover.
Types of Autophagy:
1. Macroautophagy
2. Microautophagy
3. Charperon Mediated Autophagy
