Now one month after the race and well recovered, I stay with my first analysis. One of the most brutal races I had ever done, and for me the closest to decide not to continue. Reason: Not enough food, a nutricional and logistical issue at midpoint of the race. I was running on empty stomach at km 66 already 4 hrs. To finish I estimated to run another 7-8hrs more without real food. Impossible!!! Still, is in those moments where you stretch your limits and learn to know the real animal inside. I have recognized to have an internal voice, a spirit that even seeing an impossible task ahead, that animal wants to challenge that “impossible” definition…is it really impossible? As scientists, we can’t know if we dont test it right?. Methodology to put to the test…something I learned from high altitude mountaineering…focus all your energy only in doing the next step, breathe, feel and re-assess … Energy for one more step? Yes ➡️ smile and repeat! 🔁 If can handle that emotionally draining loop for the next 8hrs running energized by my own fat reserves. In theory, I should make it…and if I don’t make it, it will be only because I was not fast enough to cross the finish line before the cut off time. ie. I delegate the decision to the organization. Now, focus on the fight and enjoy every breath and step in this beautiful place and moment. 💪🏻 Go! …fast forward..km 82 - 4hrs later- a miracle happens…the PAS Desolación had Pasta and that changed the whole race for me. A new race started… finishing 🏁105K with a sprint! 🤟🏻💪🏻🏃💨

A brutal but needed reconnection with my homeland and region in south 🇨🇱. Known as one of the most hard ultra trails from South America, 100K Vulcano Ultra Trail. Sourrounding the Volcán Osorno, a place I visited, contemplated, cycled, skied, climbed many times as a teenager. Now conquered the biggest distance on the hardest race arround this magestic and magnetic Patagonian place.
