Many rodenticides are highly hazardous and are being phased out. They should not be on our shelves at all.

Owl poisonings in Keurboom Park and Cape St. Francis Bay have triggered local action, impactful results, and support tool kits to inspire other communities and suburbs to help protect our owls (and raptors).

In Cape St. Francis the community has led stunning action, getting local retailers to remove highly hazardous pest control products from their shelves, a local pest control company has changed to electric traps, and in Cape Town there is now a proposal to replace the City’s 66,000 rat control bait stations, and Keurboom Park is a biodiversity safe haven.

UnPoison has now launched an UnPoison Our Animals page with resources, toolkits, and information many local heroes to #UnPoison Our Owls (& Urban Raptors), UnPoison Our Animals, and UnPoison Our Reatilers with the intention of supporting other communities to do the same.

This #UnPoison webinar is part of our #UnPoison Our Suburbs and #UnPoison Our City campaign to inspire residents to become local champions in their suburbs and areas of influence to help us UnPoison the City one suburb at a time.
Check out our webpage - UnPoison Our City for how to get involved as an active citizen or a campaign champion in your area. By the end of 2025, 12 suburbs achieved exemption from municipal spraying with many more suburbs working on doing the same for their neighbourhoods.
