Nisha and Pankaj Patel, a Gujarati couple met Ahmedabad agents Pintu Goswami and Abhay Rawal who promised to help them to illegally enter the US for a fee. Pankaj's parents even decided to sell off their house to organise money for the couple. On June 3, they left for Hyderabad as planned .From Hyderabad, they were to travel to Iran, which they did on June 12 after getting a visa. They were supposed to travel to Mexico and then enter the US illegally. But things started to go terribly wrong for the Gujarati couple, as the Pakistani agent Wasim who took them to a hotel kept them hostage there. They seemed to be working in collaboration with Goswami and Rawal
