The Dreyer family has been a resident of Guadalupe County since 1870, and Dennis and Linda Dreyer have played active roles in that legacy for many decades. They described the area as quiet; not just in sound, but in existence.
“We are just farmers.” Dennis recalls. “We raise cattle and do row crops.
“We built a house on that property, and lived there for 45 years. We used to not be able to sleep because it was so quiet- your ears would ring! But now, that property is not what it was. It can take us 20 to 25 minutes just to get out of our driveway. There's so much traffic.”
Linda shares the sentiment of the passing of time, and how she and Dennis’ lives have changed as a result. “About three years ago, a cow knocked me down and I wound up in the ICU,” Linda says of her motivations to move. “I talked to Dennis about the realization that we were getting older, and where we were currently living and had lived for several decades was probably not where we were going to age well in.”
Faced with the uncertainty of the future, Dennis and Linda were anxious. They knew they needed to move, but where?
The couple approached Mock Ranches with their request: to find a property within a 10 mile radius of their grandkids- somewhere they could continue being stewards of the land while building new memories with their family.
Mock Ranches agents Dwayne Baker and Max Ramsey partnered on this sale, and ultimately the purchase of a new property for the Dreyers. Dwayne says that working as a team on sales is a key component to the fulfillment of a client’s wishes. “Working in teams helps to ensure that we don’t miss anything,” he stated. “We want to do a good job in understanding what the client is looking for and what their goals are. Accomplishing their goals is what ultimately matters!”
While Dwayne and Max worked tirelessly to find the perfect property for the Dryers, Dennis looks back fondly on the communication process, citing that Dwayne was “constantly on the phone”, and that he and Linda looked forward to Thursday afternoons because they knew they would be getting a call from someone.
“It was truly phenomenal!” He beams. “That was probably the best part of the whole process, just short of getting the place.”
‘The place’ ended up being just over 100 acres of prime property in Central Texas, just outside the 10 mile search radius the Dreyers requested.
“I remember looking at the first couple of pictures and thinking, ‘man, this is a really cool piece of property.’” Dwayne says of finding the listing.
“Dwayne says to us, ‘I think you’ll like it’. And not only do we like it, we love it!” Dwayne says of the property.
“I told Dwayne, ‘I love this place!’, and I didn’t have to open the front door,” Linda adds. “We knew it was somewhere we could age well in, and a space for family that we can create family times in.
“Dennis is about the land, and developing the land, and cattle. And for me, this is a place for family, and it’s a place to create space for family to grow, interact, and connect with.”
And the biggest blessing?
“It feels like home.” Linda says, her eyes radiant. “God was in this. Every step of the way, God was in this.”
With the help and support of Mock Ranches and agents Dwayne and Max, the Dreyers were able to find a new rhythm: one that still held the hum of quiet farming life they have always known and loved, while adding in the new tempos of family only a few miles away.
“Mock Ranches is an exceptional organization to work with,” the Dreyers conclude. “Dwayne Baker and Max Ramsey have been phenomenal. They have seen our needs and helped us meet our wants. We would recommend Mock Ranches and their agents to anyone. They are clearly a quality company, and I will continue to recommend them.”
