Filmed in November 2023, the video is drone footage of the terminus (western end), northern arm of the Somerset (also Somersetshire) Coal Canal. The canal opened in 1805, closed in 1898, and served several local collieries in shipping coal to Bath and beyond. Now unnavigable and largely derelict the canal ran for approximately 10 miles east to join the main network at Dundas on the Kennet & Avon.
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of volunteers (organised by the SCC Society, see below) it is likely that the last mile of the canal, from these basins eastwards, will be returned to water in the not too distant future. The ultimate aim is to restore the whole canal back to navigation, a worthy aim likely to take several decades in the absence of one or two very rich benefactors. Full restoration would be truly wonderful as, winding its way through gorgeous quiet valleys south of Bath, the canal could well be considered as one of the prettiest, if not the prettiest, in the UK.
For detailed info, photos and maps, visit “coalcanal.com”, the home of the Somersetshire Coal Canal Society. New members and volunteers welcome.

No wildlife was harmed or greatly disturbed in the making of this video. At worst, it was mildly and fleetingly interested!👍🙂.
Drone used : DJI Mini 3 Pro.
