This Hornpipe is one of the movements in Georg Friedrich Händel's Water Music collection which premiered on 7-17-1717 on the River Thames in London.
King George I had requested this concert music from the composer for a boat ride. He and his aristocratic entourage boarded one barge while about fifty musicians performed Händel's music on another during the trip between Whitehall Palace and Chelsea.
Water Music was a big success with the king, his guests and many Londoners who came to the river to hear it too.
Thirty-two years later, in 1749, the king's son, George II, would commission Händel to write the Music for the Royal Fireworks.
