Melbourne City Loop

Описание: In this video we take a train operating solely around the Melbourne City Loop in the Clifton Hill Tunnel. The City Loop tunnels are traversed by the majority of Melbourne's train lines and include CBD stations at Flagstaff, Melbourne Central and Parliament. Trains usually use this loop to turn around and head back out towards the suburbs, but sometimes when there are line closures trains will run a continuous loop around the city to replace missing trains in the CBD, such as on this day when the Pakenham and Cranbourne Lines were not running into the city.

Upon the opening of the Metro Tunnel later in 2025, the Pakenham, Cranbourne and Sunbury Lines will no longer travel through the City Loop, instead using the new Metro Tunnel. This will mean the end of regular operations of HCMT trains in the City Loop, which is really strange because they originally had to move all the signals slightly forward to accommodate for these longer trains and make the Caufield tunnel one-directional because of this, and now they will be moving out of it anyway. The Frankston Line will instead move into this tunnel with the Werribee and Williamstown Lines changing to be through-running with the Sandringham Line.
