Time to get a look at @exposure4photography! He makes good use of low angles and foreground/background elements to include DEPTH into the pictures.
For sure I can see that getting photos at the right time of the day would make everything more cinematic and with more interesting colors, so my suggestion is to go out at the right time of the day and try again the same shots.
