Hi Gang~
In my travels, when I get to perform, write and record with a variety of wonderful folks of multiple generations, in a variety of genres, I find more and more frequently that the mention of a particular near and dear recording, act or writer from not toooo far back evokes a response (or lack of) rendering it woefully into my personal category of "dangerously teetering on the edge of the great ignorabyss."
So...
...since everyone seems to be fond of posting cover samples of their favorite new records, I thought I'd do my own quick one-two punch (just over a minute, come on!) of some of my favorite tracks which I seldom hear, even on subscription a la carte streaming.
This is just a little how do you do, to hip you to someone and something that MAY have escaped your radar.
This month's offering comes from The Isley Brothers "middle period" (they were OLD old-school w/ "Shout", "Stagger Lee" "This Old Heart of Mine", etc., then had an ASTOUNDINGLY funky spell in the mid-70's on their own label, T-Neck Records...and it's some of these tracks that fueled me through my teen years.
"Climbing Up The Ladder", "The Heat Is On", "The Pride", "Go For Your Guns" and of course the emergence of Ronald Isley as the crooning heartthrob behind "Make Me Say It Again Girl", "For The Love Of You" and "Atlantis" were a mainstay on black radio.
But we're concerned today with the in your face funk of "Living In The Life".
If you're into old soul, check out the deep tracks of the Isley Brothers. You'll be funking glad that you did.
OK, from this old soul to you...thanks!
~JC
P.S. This ain't slick.
Повторяем попытку...
