A regular of the public bar at the Cricketers pub told the local newspaper in 1973 that it was the 'lousiest pub in Mitcham'.
Hear this article from 16th November 1973 read out in this video, which tells of how the old pub had been destroyed in the Second World War and what the landlord and other customers thought of its replacement.
The article was from the Mitcham News & Mercury, which hasn't been digitised online.

The cricket mural was reported on the front page of the 18th October 1968 issue of the same newspaper, which "featured Mr John Young, Chairman of Young’s Brewery. The mural was the work of Mr Conrad Nickols, who first took a photo of a Whit Sunday cricket match on the green, and then coloured it in, and mounted it in a frame. After the mural had been unveiled, the upstairs “Doubles Bar” and restaurant were opened by the licensees, Mr & Mrs Cromack. Customers were able to take part in wine tasting and there was a competition with a prize of a dozen bottles of Spanish wine."
