Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons (Le quattro stagioni) is one of the earliest and most iconic examples of programmatic music. Vivaldi composed the collection of four violin concerti, each depicting a season of the year, during his tenure as music director at the court chapel of Mantua. Together with eight additional concerti, the works were published in Amsterdam in 1725 under the enticing title, Il cimento dell’armonia e dell’inventione (“The Contest Between Harmony and Invention”).
The vivid, atmospheric nature of The Four Seasons, as well as Vivaldi’s violin playing, were bold and shocking at the time.

Antonio Vivaldi's De Vier Jaargetijden (Le quattro stagioni) is een van de vroegste en meest iconische voorbeelden van programmatische muziek. Vivaldi componeerde de bundel van vier vioolconcerten, elk met een jaargetijde, tijdens zijn periode als muziekdirecteur aan de hofkapel van Mantua. Samen met acht andere concerten werden de werken in 1725 in Amsterdam uitgegeven onder de aanlokkelijke titel Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione ("De Strijd tussen Harmonie en Inventie").

Het instrument is gebouwd door Jonathan Bätz in 1839 en heeft 48 registers, verdeeld over hoofdwerk, rugwerk, bovenwerk en pedaal.
Het orgel heeft de tijd goed doorstaan.
De woorden van Jonathan Bätz lijken daardoor in vervulling te gaan:
“Zo er geen rampen gebeuren zal men twee eeuwen na onze dood het werk nog als degelijk en eerlijk geleverd roemen”

Noteworthy is that the character of for example the performers has remained the same and also the rest of the disposition is almost 1: 1 comparable to the other two organs.
There is not really a new sound idiom here yet.
