SITUATION: A 4-m long cantilever beam is carrying a total uniformly distributed dead load of 20 kN/m and a uniform live load of 36 kN/m. It is reinforced for tension with 6 nos. of 28 mm diameter rebars. The beam cross section is 400 mm by 800mm with cover up to the centroid of reinforcement equal to 70 mm. The beam is also reinforced against shear with 4-legged 10mm diameter stirrups. Assume that f’c = 21 MPa, fy = 420 MPa, fyh = 275 MPa.
1. Determine the ultimate shear force that can be resisted by the concrete portion of the beam, in kN, by detailed calculation in NSCP.
A. 242 C. 215
B. 181 D. 165
2. Determine portion of the ultimate shear force that must be resisted by the stirrups, in kN, by detailed calculation in NSCP.
A. 114 C. 124
B. 85 D. 65
3. Calculate for the maximum allowable spacing of the stirrups per NSCP, in mm.
A. 550 C. 420
B. 500 D. 365
