CANTLEY: Doncaster Parish #33 of 43

Описание: Some parish boundaries have a strange shape. There are many reasons for that. Most of them are to do with certain areas that are connected via roads which belong to a much larger area, and as land use often changes, the boundaries sometimes look a little odd. This is Doncaster's very own weirdly shaped parish. If you look on a map, it's generally speaking a flat-ish East-West chunk of land to the East of the unparished area...but then there's a small piece of land in the far South Western corner that sticks out.

To learn the reason why it's like that we have to first understand the parish a little more. There are two villages here. One very small, the other much bigger and constantly growing with every passing day, but through history this was much less about the villages and more about and estate.

The estate still exists but it covered a much bigger area that it does now. When Doncaster Council acquired part of the land to build upon, a huge chunk of land was cut from the estate, leaving a rather odd looking shape to the remaining land. Still connected, that odd piece of land is now a millionaires playground, with houses there easily reaching seven figure sums.

In fact, all over the estate there are houses in the millions, none more so that the Hall, which stands in a ridiculous 400 acres of parkland. The larger of the two villages is much more modest, but it's ever growing population means that it's still a very popular place.

This one will tell you it goes by a much longer name, but officially this is the parish of CANTLEY.
