In this Dutch pour consistency test, I compare a thin vs thick acrylic pour mixture to see how paint consistency affects cells, lacing, movement, and control on an acrylic pour canvas. If you love fluid art and want better results from your Dutch pour technique, this side-by-side acrylic pour comparison breaks it down clearly.

For this experiment, I used my ideal acrylic pour recipe — acrylic paint, Flood Floetrol, Liquitex Pouring Medium, and water — and adjusted the consistency two ways:
• Thicker mix (one-second trace)
• Thinner mix (no trace)

🧑‍🎨 Recipe and Colors for the Thick Dutch Pour Consistency
🎨 White Base
9 oz Floetrol
4 oz Liquitex
3 oz Paint
0.6 oz distilled water

🎨 Colors: Golden Cobalt Teal, Amsterdam Prussian Blue, Amsterdam Copper
*All colors were mixed with the same recipe:
0.6 Floetrol
0.2 Paint
0.1 Paint
0.2 Water

*For the thin consistency, simply add water to adjust to a zero-second trace
