B.B. King “Christmas Celebration” (Kent, 1962)
Exactly three month ago today would have been BB King’s 100th birthday, and it seemed like on that day radio stations really jumped on this as an opportunity to shine a spotlight on his music. He’s often remembered for his work after his big 1970 hit “The Thrill Is Gone” came out, but for me I’d take his 50s/60s work on RPM and Kent over that any day.
Every time I play this record out somebody comes up to me with a positive comment while it’s spinning - and I’m not talking about other record nerds, I’m talking about actual normal sane people! BB King isn’t always my bag, but he’s no doubt one of the greats.
