Waterrock Knob is the highest peak in the Plott Balsams and is the 16th-highest mountain in the Eastern United States at 6,292 feet. Located at milepost 451.2 on the Blue Ridge Parkway (about 45 minutes south of Asheville). From our hike we could see the towns of Sylva, Maggie Valley as well as Harrah's Cherokee Hotel.
The plane crash occurred in 1983 on the side of Browning Knob as 2 people were flying from Chicago to Waynesville NC.
