Описание: Natural Reservation Cheile Babei, Maramures.

Located in the southern part of Maramures county, the natural g-type reservation (geological) stretches on an area of 15 ha and was declared natural reservation on March 6 2000.
Cheile Babei are developed on the middle sector of the Baba Valley, for a length of about 1 km.
In the reservation there are a few caves: The hole of the Zmeului, the cave of Petre Mihis, cave with two entrances, and who knows how many more are that have not been seen by the human eye. Here we also find small canyons, falls and small dolines.
Valceaua Dracului(Hell Valley) is also present in the reservation and is the limit between Salaj and Maramures counties.
Apart from the landscape of deciduous forests, stammous secondary pastures, meadows, mules, padudas, conifers, the rocks of Cheile Babei are sheltered an interesting fossil fauna, including algal aims, sea snails, clams, sea hedgels, sea hedgehogs, fish scales, etc. most of the sheets can be found at the entrance to the Valceaua Dracului(Hell Valley) and not only.
Close to the Valceaua Dracului(Hell Valley) on the right side of the rocks, there is also the famous spring with the name of P*zda Babei, named by the locals because of the appearance of the split-up of the chalks in the base of the vertical slope.
Historical data shows that in the past there were 51 lime kilns, where people extracted lime from the calcareous stone of Cheile Babei. Now, there are only two kilns that are used from time to time by inhabitants of the village of Baba.

Aflata in partea sudica a judetului Maramures, Rezervatia Naturala de tip g (geologic) se intinde pe o suprafata de 15 ha si a fost declarata Rezervatie Naturala in 6 martie 2000.
Cheile sunt dezvoltate pe sectorul mijlociu al Vaii Babei, pe o lungime de aproximativ 1 km.
In rezervatie exista cateva pesteri: Gaura Zmeului, pestera lui Petre Mihis, pestera cu doua intrari din Cheile Babei si cine stie cate mai sunt care nu au fost vazute de ochiul uman.De asemenea aici mai gasim mici canioane, cascade si mici doline.
Valceaua Dracului este si ea prezenta in Rezervatie si este limita dintre judetele Salaj si Maramures.
Pe langa peisajul de paduri de foioase, pasuni secundare bolovanoase, macesi, aluni, paducei, conifere, stancile din Cheile Babei adapostesc si o fauna fosila interesanta, cuprinzand teluri de alge, melci marini, scoici, arici de mare, solzi de pesti,etc.Majoritatea fosilelor le putem gasi la intrarea in Valceaua Dracului si nu numai.
In apropiere de Valceaua Dracului pe partea dreapta a stancilor, se afla si renumitul izvor cu nume deocheat P*zda Babei, numit asa de localnici datorita aspectului despicaturii calcarelor in baza versantului vertical.
Date istorice arata ca in trecut existau 51 de cuptoare de var, unde oamenii extrageau var din piatra calcaroasa a cheilor.Acum, mai exista doar doua cuptoare care sunt utilizate din cand in cand de locuitorii satului Baba.
