Charlie Smyth shines yet again with career high field goal during the New Orleans Saints’ latest win

Mayobridge’s Charlie Smyth shone once again to help the New Orleans Saints extend their winning streak into a fourth successive match.
The former Down Gaelic footballer turned NFL kicker converted two field goals, including a career-high 57-yard effort, as the Saints secured a 34-26 road victory over the Tennessee Titans in Nashville on Sunday.
Smyth also landed a 56-yard attempt in addition to four extra points following touchdowns that meant he contributed 10 of the Saints’ overall points haul in the game.
The 24-year-old’s contributions proved crucial in helping New Orleans add to their recent wins over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers and New York Jets and complete a perfect December, elevating them to 6-10 in the NFC standings.
Having inked a three-year contract and made sure of a permanent spot on the Saints’ 53-man roster on the back of his impressive displays since being elevated from the practice squad in November, Smyth maintained his fine form in ensuring his side just about got the better of the 3-13 Titans.
New Orleans’ winning run looked in danger in the first-half as Tennessee pulled into a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter, with Smyth’s first field goal from 56 yards just under six minutes out from half-time their first points on the board.
The Saints trailed 20-10 at half-time, Smyth having also tagged on the extra point after Chase Young’s touchdown, but they had closed the gap to 23-20 by the end of the third quarter.
