In this video, I begin blocking in local color using soft pastel and leaving some of the paper grain to show, so that additional layers of pastel can be added. Local color is the color of an object without additional light or shadow being added to it, to change the values. For instance, it is the color that comes straight out of the tube when you are painting. The colors i used for this demonstration are: white, black, red, blue, yellow ochre, sap green, alizarin crimson, dark green, and lemon yellow.
