Upper Peninsula, Michigan - Lake Perrault, Chassell Strawberry Festival and Keweenaw Bay

Описание: Our next dispersed camping spot was Lake Perrault which we found using the iOverlander app. It was a local fishing spot that had about 7 dispersed camping spots - 2 along the lake and 5 within the trees. There was a hiking trail that took you around the lake and a natural beach access point where you could launch a small fishing boat, canoe, or kayak. Being a quiet and peaceful spot, we opted to stay for a few days to relax, unwind and enjoy.

Doing some research, we found that 11 miles away in the small town of Chassell, the Lions Club would be hosting their annual Strawberry Festival. Having grown up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Anna Maria had never been to a small town festival and was eager to do so. So we packed up and made our way over to Chassell for the first day of the festival.

Driving into Chassell on an empty stomach, we stopped in town to buy a quick snake - a pastie and a rooter float. It was just what we needed on a warm day. Centennial Park was the venue for the Strawberry Festival and we were easily able to find it as it was the hubbub of the town that day! What a great time we had perusing the vendor booths, eating some fish boil for dinner, strawberry shortcake for dessert, watching the children's parade, and topping the evening off with the Strawberry Festival Queen coronation.

On our way to find a campsite for the night, we found a self-serve maple syrup shack. Couldn't pass it up, and bought an 8-ounce bottle! We were lucky to discover a dispersed camping spot along the highway not too far from Chassell. It was right on the edge of Keweenaw Bay. We thought the evening sky was spectacular, but the sunrise had it beat!

After breaking camp early, we headed back to the festival to secure a good parking spot and a nice spot along the parade route. The parade was everything Anna Maria could have imagined for a small town festival, and couldn't have been happier. Following the parade, we made our way back to the pavilion for the Chassell Firefighters and First Responders Chicken barbecue. After listening to the Lightning Ridge band play some great tunes, we packed up to head out to our next Upper Peninsula adventure. What a great time we had in Chassell, MI!!!
