Στη Μάχη του Σομμ (Ιούλιος – Νοέμβριος 1916), μία από τις πιο αιματηρές και καθοριστικές συγκρούσεις του Α΄ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου, ο Βρετανικός Στρατός εξαπέλυσε μαζικές επιθετικές ενέργειες εναντίον καλά οργανωμένων γερμανικών θέσεων.
Το παρόν διοράμα αποτυπώνει τη στιγμή του “Over the Top”:
την έξοδο των Βρετανών πεζικάριων από το χαράκωμα και την πορεία τους προς το άγνωστο, μέσα σε λάσπη, συρματοπλέγματα και διαρκή θανάσιμη απειλή.
Οι φιγούρες και ο εξοπλισμός αντιπροσωπεύουν μονάδες του Βρετανικού Στρατού που έδρασαν στο Σομμ, όπως η 18th (Eastern) Division ή η 34th Division

Το χαράκωμα εδώ δεν είναι απλώς σκηνικό.
Είναι ένας ολόκληρος κόσμος: χώρος αναμονής, φόβου, ελπίδας και επιβίωσης.
Οι στίχοι που ακούγονται στο κομμάτι προέρχονται από αγγλικό τραγούδι της περιόδου του Α΄ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου και αντικατοπτρίζουν το πνεύμα με το οποίο πολλοί στρατιώτες ξεκινούσαν για το μέτωπο.
Η μορφή του Private Perks δεν παρουσιάζεται ως ήρωας, αλλά ως ένας απλός στρατιώτης — αγαπητός, χαμογελαστός, σχεδόν αθώος — που βαδίζει προς τη Φλάνδρα χωρίς να γνωρίζει τι τον περιμένει.

Τέτοια τραγούδια τραγουδιούνταν συχνά πριν ή κατά τη διάρκεια της πορείας προς τα χαρακώματα, λειτουργώντας ως μέσο εμψύχωσης, αλλά και ως μια εύθραυστη άμυνα απέναντι στον φόβο. Η αντίθεση ανάμεσα στο χαμόγελο των στίχων και την πραγματικότητα του πολέμου είναι ακριβώς αυτό που κάνει αυτά τα τραγούδια τόσο συγκλονιστικά σήμερα.

🏅 Το έργο συμμετείχε στην 41η Έκθεση της IPMS Ελλάδος (2022), όπου τιμήθηκε με Έπαινο.

Το βίντεο αυτό αποτελεί μια προσπάθεια ιστορικής αφήγησης μέσα από τον μοντελισμό – μια στιγμή παγωμένη στον χρόνο, σε κλίμακα 1/35.

The Battle of the Somme (July–November 1916) stands as one of the bloodiest and most defining battles of the First World War. During this massive offensive, British infantry units were ordered to leave their trenches and advance across open ground under devastating fire.
This diorama captures the moment known as “Over the Top” —
the instant British soldiers climb out of the trench and move toward the unknown, surrounded by mud, barbed wire, and constant danger.
The figures and equipment represent British Army units that fought at the Somme, such as the 18th (Eastern) Division or the 34th Division,

Here, the trench is not merely a backdrop.
It is a world of its own — a place of waiting, fear, exhaustion, and resolve.

The composition draws inspiration from early 20th-century military songs and wartime poetry, without reproducing or sampling any original recordings.
Selected lyrical lines are used in an interpretive and atmospheric way, serving as a historical reference rather than a direct adaptation. The music aims to evoke the emotional weight of soldiers marching into battle — the contrast between morale, duty, and the uncertainty of the front line.

🏅 This work was exhibited at the 41st IPMS Greece Exhibition (2022), where it received an Honorable Mention.

This video is an attempt to tell history through scale modeling —
a frozen moment of war, recreated with respect and narrative intent.
