Thousands of farmers in the Bargarh district of Odisha took to the streets on Monday, launching a massive 'Jail Bharo' (Fill the Jails) agitation at three major locations: Bargarh, Atabira, and Padampur.
​Organized under the banner of the Samyukta Krushak Sangathan and supported by various regional and national farmers' unions including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, the protesters raised their voices against the agricultural policies of both the State and Central governments.
​Key demands of the farmers include:
​Fair and remunerative prices for their crops based on production costs.
​Immediate resolution of mismanagement and irregularities in paddy procurement at Mandis.
​Revision of anti-farmer agricultural policies.
​The farmer unions have strictly warned the government that the agitation will be intensified into a larger, state-wide movement if their demands are not addressed and resolved immediately.
