In Video 4 we break down three settings that sound scary but are actually simple - color space, codec, and bitrate - and once you understand them your footage will look better before you even touch a LUT. I’ll explain the difference between Rec.709 (the standard “normal” look that’s fast and easy) and Log (a flatter look that holds more highlight/shadow detail for grading), when to use each, and why Rec.709 can still look amazing if you expose and white balance correctly. Then we’ll cover codecs like ProRes, HEVC/H.265, and H.264 so you know which one gives you the best quality vs the smallest file size, and finally we’ll talk bitrate and why choosing the highest option you can matters so much for LUTs because they don’t create problems - they reveal compression, banding, and messy shadows. By the end you’ll know exactly what settings to pick for a quick social workflow versus a more cinematic, grade-friendly workflow.
