After spending an hour drilling and filing the plastic coal mould out of Mallards tender and replacing it with the real deal, I thought it would be a shame not to give her a blast up and down the branch! This is the 1985 Hornby tender driven model, and so slow speed running is certainly not her speciality. After spending fifteen years in a dirty box in a garage, the kind folks at Trains4you in Peterborough restored her to running condition for me recently with a fresh set of wheels and connecting rods. For a 33 year old model, I reckon she still holds up!
In this video she blasts up the line with 6 coaches, and heads backs down with the help of Standard class 4MT 75062. 75062 is also making a comeback following a long overdue service and a good wheel clean!
